I’m a busy working mom of two children, 14-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son. Our family lives in Lower Saucon along with our two dogs and two cats. After 3 years of retirement, my husband recently went back to work part time, so our time of having a full-time parent at home all day came to a crashing halt a few months ago. We are your typical busy family just trying to keep chaos to a minimum.
I started coming to Body Elite in August 2018. I started with two 30 minute sessions weekly, bumped it up to 3 and have recently changed one of those half hours to full hours. I was not in fantastic shape when I started at Body Elite, physically or emotionally. I had been working out consistently over the past 5-6 years; however, severe arthritis in my right hip had slowly eroded away exercises I felt comfortable doing. My workouts were becoming less and less impactful and I could feel that in every facet of my life. I was moving slower, giving up things I enjoyed doing and the mental component of not being able to move in the ways I wanted to was really weighing heavy on me.
The fitness class I had been taking went on hiatus for the summer last year and I was struggling to find something to take its place, I needed something that could accommodate my hip issue and help me safely continue working out. After two months of inactivity, I really started feeling the impact of not moving. I knew that I had to find something that could fit my needs or else I headed toward a sedentary lifestyle that I didn’t want for myself. I was working with Erin Sparrold as a nutrition client at the time and she recommended Body Elite to me. I contacted them the very next day and scheduled an appointment.
Since starting at Body Elite, I am just moving through life easier. I have more mobility in my hip and experience less pain on a daily basis. I’m doing more things with my kids and can participate better in family events. I was on the fast track for a hip replacement prior to Body Elite, but my most recent visit with my doctor was really encouraging. He was so happy with the progress I had that he feels with continued work on my part, any future hip replacement can be put off indefinitely.
My expectations for myself were extremely low when I began at Body Elite. I didn’t think I was capable of that much and my goal was to merely keep my body moving in some capacity.
The improvement in my abilities has far exceeded what I anticipated. I have gained strength and my cardiovascular performance has improved greatly. I can certainly do exercises today that I couldn’t do when I walked through the door 8 months ago.
Before starting, the idea of personal training to me was intimidating and overwhelming, especially given that I was walking in the door with what I felt was a disadvantage with my hip. I feared being asked to do things I couldn’t do and didn’t think I would be able to keep up at a pace a trainer would find acceptable. I would tell anyone considering Body Elite that this was most certainly not the case. Every single trainer has been incredibly supportive and easy to work with. They have always remained sensitive any pain I’m experiencing and provided safe movements for me to perform. I have never felt judged. I’ve been challenged, but never pushed past a point that I would consider too much. The trainers had more faith in me than I had in myself when I started and their belief in me has directly driven my success.
